The iPod has been a staple of the personal electronics industry since it first exploded onto the scene in late 2001. Apple created the iPod to fill the demand they saw in the marketplace for small, sleek, powerful and useful portable media devices. Over the years the iPod design has improved greatly, incorporating larger and better screens that allow for a full range of high quality images, which are used for everything from photo albums to video.
One of the most used functions of the iPod screen is giving your iPod a theme wallpaper. Decorative wallpapers are nothing new for anyone who has used a computer before. Your computer’s wallpaper is nothing more than the image that appears on the “back” of your computer screen- the image that all your icons and applications appear to be layered over. Desktop wallpapers have been around for as long as computers have had graphic interfaces, and have been popular and simple ways to personalize your hardware.
Portable electronics that feature a screen and icons are no different, and they all allow you to personalize everything from your cell phone to your iPod with theme wallpapers.
One option for your iPod theme wallpaper is using one of the default theme wallpapers that come with your iPod. Different models of iPods have different themes; with the iPod touch coming with the most default themes to choose from (because the iPod touch has the largest and most interactive screen of all the models). While these default iPod theme wallpapers are attractive, they don’t really provide a lot of options for truly personalizing your background.
Perhaps the best way to fully individualize your iPod’s wallpaper is to set a photo as your background. To use a photo as your iPod’s wallpaper, you must first get the photo you want to use onto your iPod itself. You basically have two options for this-
1) The only iPod that has a camera in it is the iPhone. While some don’t consider the iPhone as a member of the iPod family, it is essentially identical to the iPod touch, aside from its internal camera and phone capabilities. Taking a photo with your iPhone is as easy as taking a photo with any other digital phone or camera.
2) If you’re using an iPod product that is not an iPhone, you’re going to have to either download the photo you want to use from the internet, or transfer it to your phone from your computer. This is easy to do, as all you have to do is plug your iPod into your computer, open up your iPod’s directory, look for the tab that says “Photos”, and then copy and paste the photo you want to use into the Photo folder. When you turn your iPod on, you should have the photo you want to use available to set as your iPod themes’ wallpaper.
If you want to personalize your iPods wallpaper but you don’t want to go through all that hassle, or if you don’t have a specific personal image in mind, you can always simply download one of the many custom iPod theme wallpapers available online. Lots of people have created attractive custom themes, and while they might not be 100% original, they will make sure you’re not stuck using the same default iPod wallpaper themes as everyone else.
